Try it Tuesday

It’s Tuesday!! The final day of my week-long goal-setting process. If you have not had the opportunity to read about the entire process please browse my last few blog posts for more details. If you have been following along – Congratulations!! It’s time to put action behind all of your research & discovery!

What is Try it Tuesday?

Try it Tuesday is the perfect day to try the to-do list you created. Put action behind your goal defining and research! Start turning your goal or new habit into reality by doing the steps.

Celebrate the week of work you have already put in and keep going! Add your to-do list to your daily routine!

Don’t get upset if you miss a day or something comes up, just pick up where you left off, just don’t quit!

This week-long process isn’t just for new goals, it can help keep you focused too:

  • Why not – confirm your goal instead of defining it, confirm why you are focused on this particular goal/habit
  • Tackle it – How is this goal or new habit transforming me? What outcome am I experiencing?
  • Focus on it – Are the tools and resources I’m using working for me? Do I need other tools or resources, what would make this more productive?
  • Successful Saturday and Sunday – Continue celebrating accomplishments, fitting in additional time for your goal or habit as time allows. Share successes with friends or track online or in a journal. Confirm your mindset toward your goals and accomplishments.
  • Make it – Keep creating a weekly list of what you need to accomplish your goals. Once that list is a comfortable routine, add to it. I suggest each weekend creating your weekly list to stay focused.
  • Try it – Stay focused on your to-do steps and incorporate new ones as you feel comfortable. Stay active toward your goal or habit! Remember, celebrate those successes!!!

Make it Monday

It’s Make it Monday! If you haven’t had an opportunity to read my last few post please do so to read more about the week-long goal-setting process! If you have been following along you are ready for Make it Monday!!

What is Make it Monday?

Make it Monday is a great day to create a list of a few steps that will get you started on your goal-focus. I suggest a to-do list with about three steps, but no more than five to start. Example – If you are focused on your health (reducing stress, overall wellbeing, etc.) you may want to make a list that looks something like:

  • Walk each evening for 30 minutes.
  • Purchase healthy groceries & make lunches for work instead of eating out.
  • Make a smoothie for breakfast each morning instead of eating a processed breakfast bar.
  • Be more conscious of meals and snacks.
  • Cook healthier portioned meals at home at least 3 nights a week.

The steps you choose are ones that are simple to incorporate into your personal unique lifestyle. Please make these steps realistic for you and don’t make all the changes at once. Add in other steps once you are comfortable with these; once the to do list becomes a comfortable part of your routine.

I suggest keeping a weekly calendar or journal to record your steps and celebrate your accomplishments!

Focus on it Friday

It’s Friday! A perfect day to focus on your goal. If you haven’t had an opportunity to read about the first two days of the process please look over my last two blog posts.

What is Focus on it Friday?

Focus on it Friday – Focus on & research the tools and resources needed to accomplish your goal or start your new habit. Do you need to study or complete a certification to accomplish it? Or using a health focus as an example – you may plan to exchange a fast-food breakfast each morning for a smoothie so you’ll need to buy a blender or get yours out of storage. You may plan on incorporating more steps into each day and want new shoes or a step tracker. Maybe you want to join a gym or find a walking partner. Discover what you need to start your goal, but don’t overthink it, just research what you need to get started then adjust as needed as you grow and succeed. Keep the list short for now.

I have stretched the process over a week so hopefully, it is a bit easier to get started on a setting a new goal.

The entire process can be found here.

What goal are you focused on?

Transform Thursday

Yesterday, I posted about Why Not Wednesday, please read all about it if you missed it yesterday. Today, we continue the goal defining & goal-setting process with Tackle it & Transform Thursday! This is part of a weeklong method to define, set a goal, & plan out your action steps.

What is Tackle it & Transform Thursday?
Hopefully you had a chance to explore some goals yesterday. Now ask – How will this goal or new habit transform me or my future? What is my expected outcome? Envision your goal or habit in motion (tackling it), how do you want it to transform you?

Example – If health & wellness is your main focus you may say something like – When I’m healthier I can train for that marathon my sister and I always wanted to run together. When I’m healthier I can spend more active time with my spouse, children, grandchildren, friends…When I’m healthier I can travel more and go hiking. When I’m healthier I can feel better and start another new goal or habit.

I have stretched the process over a week so hopefully it is a bit easier to get started on a setting a new goal.

Tomorrow is Focus on it Friday!

The entire process can be found here.

What goal are you focused on?

Why Not Wednesday?

Reposting – Because I find this method helpful when I need to define & focus on a goal and at times when I need to get back on track! Questions? Please comment below or contact me.

If you are not sure what “Why Not Wednesday” means, you can read about it and the rest of the week here. It’s an exciting opportunity to start working toward a goal you want to accomplish!

After several conversations with friends and colleagues, one main topic is a desire for a better morning routine. So let’s focus on some details.

Why Not Wednesday is a perfect day to define what a perfect morning routine would look like. It might look something like one of these:

  • I want to read 10 pages of a book each morning and meditate for 15 minutes without interruption. Why – Because I have a long book list and have not been able to find time to finish a book in a long time and it brings me joy.
  • I want to meditate and do yoga before work each morning. Why? I feel stiff and tired most days & my stress level has been higher than normal. Meditation will help me decrease my stress and will help clear my mind. Yoga will help me relax and stretch my muscles. Once my stress is less & I am not as tired I can focus on more goals.
  • I want to wake up in time to make a healthy breakfast before I leave for work. Why? I don’t eat as healthy as I’d like once I leave my home. Eating at home (or preparing a meal to take with me) will be healthier, cheaper and provide a creative outlet since I love to cook!
  • I want to start walking in the mornings with my spouse. Why? We have talked about it for a long time, but never committed to actually doing it. I know we will enjoy the quiet time together and once we feel healthier we can focus on other exercise goals and maybe even train for our first marathon together!
  • I want to write 10 pages of the novel that I have put off for way too long. Why? It’s quiet in the morning and I could easily get up 30 minutes earlier and only write, no edits, just write every day. Once I finish my draft, I can edit and submit it to an agent!
  • I want to paint sunsets. Why? Painting has always relaxed me and being mindful of the evening’s beauty will help me unwind and even sleep better. Once I have a few paintings finished I might try to sell them at a local craft show!

See how each “I want” is followed up with a why? And how some of those lead to other goals. One goal might even inspire others!

Why Not is the first step (it’s that simple!). You don’t have to figure it all at once.

Have you defined a goal today? Congratulations! Share it below!

I encourage you to start tossing around ideas for Tackle it & Transform Thursday.

How do you show up?

Sometimes the most difficult step toward a goal is the first one. One important reminder is to show up…just as you are. You don’t have to wait for stars to align, timing to be perfect, or for your goal to be perfectly planned out. And you certainly don’t need to let someone else set the standard or give you permission before you start. Show up…as you are & take the first few steps in your action plan.

Allow yourself to evolve at your pace. Adapt when you acknowledge self-growth. Your routine may change, your growth may be quick or slow, your starting steps may be catalysts for new goals…show up today, as you are & embrace your discovery.

Please, show up for your goals, yourself, career choice, relationships, education, self-care, health, happiness, journey, self-growth…during your self-discovery one main focus is to show up as you are & welcome the discovery & growth you are so very capable of!

What are you currently focused on & showing up for?

Identifying your unique happiness

Your happiness is unique to you and so are the goals that encourage that happiness. Setting unique goals that put you closer to your positive future self without knowing every single outcome takes bravery. Be brave. Trust yourself. Make a commitment to your personal process and dedicate time to your goals and self-discovery.
Once committed, you will discover you are so much stronger than the limits you put upon yourself.
Identifying why a goal is important to you, the happiness it will bring, and the first few steps needed to get started will lead to your self-defined future. Identification of your happiness is a form of self-care and helps you create a goal-setting action plan unique to you.
Pause – Take a moment and think about actions in life that bring you the most joy.

Are your actions incorporated into your daily or weekly routine? What is keeping you from dedicating more time to those actions? How can you dedicate more time?

Set goals that challenge you and encourage you to define and identify your happiness.

Both professional and personal goals require commitment and dedicated time. Take a few moments to write out your typical daily and weekly schedule. Seeing your schedule in print will help you identify timeframes that work best for your unique situation and help you focus on your discovery.

What main goal focus will encourage more happiness and growth? I’d love to hear what you are focused on and how you stay focused. Connect via Instagram (successencourager), email me or comment below.

Goals – Know what to pack

My current journey includes focusing on specific goals that are unique to me and self-discovery. Recently, I was reading an article about travel tips. When I read ‘know what pack‘ I thought about that concept and goal-setting; it was a light bulb moment.

I love to travel – especially road trips! Sometimes a long drive is just what I need to recharge & focus.

The Travel Tip article included several essential tips; pack only what you need, dress in layers since weather changes as you travel, pack comfortable attire, take your journal, charger, camera (phone), etc. This advice works well when setting a new goal!

I know it may sound odd, but sometimes relating one focus to another concept offers clarity. Goal-setting requires packing only what you need and being comfortable with the reality of the goal & the steps required.

If you are unsure what to pack (focus on) imagine what is already in your suitcase –

  • What do you spend the most time currently doing?
  • What makes you the happiest & fulfilled?
  • Are the things that make you happy actually in your suitcase or sitting off to the side?
  • Reflect for a while & then pack & unpack accordingly – give your main goal a definition & label it…write out what you want to focus more time on.

Dress in layers so you add & remove as needed. Layering out a plan supports action so you can dedicate time to the goal focus that means the most to you. Start out with a layered action plan made of 3 to 5 steps.

Step one should include a real reason why you want to focus on the chosen goal. Add a few simple steps to get started & adjust as needed. Add more steps at your own pace.

Resources include such things as a journal, charger, camera, etc. These suggested items can literally be part of your process or you can discover other tools & resources needed for your specific trip. I personally keep a journal and/or planner with me at all times to record ideas, quotes, progress, etc. I also read a lot about my current goal focus, recently I have been reading a lot of self-discovery books and a few fiction ones too.

Your journey will include detours, rest stops, and maintenance along the way. Staying focused on your path will help you adapt to the direction that best guides you.

When you pack what you need & remember your ‘why’ you can truly enjoy the ride & incorporate realistic steps for your goal into your unique routine.

What is your current goal focus? What should you pack in your suitcase? What resources are on your list? Comment or email me at successencourager@gmail.com.

Staying focused on your goals

A few months ago I posted about my window pane method. I find myself going back to this method often. It’s a great way to focus on a goal you want to start and set an action plan, but it’s also a great way to check-in and reevaluate your focus and set the next action steps needed.

Focus is a word that I could repeat several times a day to myself and still need to hear it more. I tend to have so many ideas and plans floating around in my head it is difficult to focus on one or even three. I love accomplishing goals though, I love discovering and learning…I enjoy the planning process; the journey. I sometimes get so caught up in the discovering that I fear once I complete something I will feel a bit of a loss…sounds silly I know!

Accomplishing a goal is an amazing feeling. Finding a new positive routine to add to my day to reduce stress, learn, meditate, etc. is such a renewing feeling. And 99% of the time accomplishing one-goal leads to focusing on another and yet another.

Goal accomplishment is not an end…it is an addition to my own self-discovery and proof that I am capable of additional goals. Whenever I start to feel a bit anxious about a goal completion being an ‘end’ I remind myself of the self-discovery and how every goal completed, every positive habit added to my routine or adjustment to my routine…is in fact what makes me who I am. Are we not the sum of all of our goals, experiences, and learnings?

Isn’t it exciting to think how far we have come, yet we still have so much more to discover?

Self-paced learning is something that I am constantly discovering and helps me clarify the many ideas that I find myself thinking about. It also helps me discover & appreciate my own personal pace.

We live in a world that makes is so convenient to learn…there are videos, print and audiobooks, several ways to communicate with professionals and experts in almost any field, connect with peers and others focused on the same topics, free library resources, and classes…the list goes on and on.

Basic tips for self-paced learning:

  • Define something you want to learn whether it is a hobby/personal enrichment or professional development such as new knowledge. If you want to learn how to make jewelry to sell online as a side business you would start with defining what type of jewelry making do you enjoy…research the budget needed for supplies…research online learning options, books, etc. and then study and create and study more and create more and as often as you can!
  • Next research how and where you can sell your creations; online stores and social media, craft shows, neighbors and friends, setting up a weekend sale in your own yard or at a local craft fair, consignment artist community/shop, etc.
  • Adapt and evolve. Dive right in and see what works and what doesn’t. Adapt as needed. Maybe you don’t sell as much and the hosting cost is too much for certain online selling so you focus on other marketing options and selling at venues or craft shows in person.

The tips and examples above are simple, but you get the idea…Self-paced learning can help you focus and creates an opportunity to learn more.
